Building A Business That's You w/ Sarah Gilliland | Sold Out Sales Podcast with Tish Times S02EP09
With over 20 years working in the legal field, Sarah is dedicated to empowering small business owners and entrepreneurs to feel confident that what they've worked so hard to build is protected. She takes pride in demystifying legal, making it easy for her clients to understand, and fostering a sense of security and trust among those she serves. She has a unique approach, in that she sees herself as an entrepreneur first whose expertise happens to be legal. Because of this, she can relate to her clients and those in the entrepreneurial community in a deeper way. When Sarah isn't lawyering, she loves all things outdoors and traveling with her college sweetheart, their two teen boys, and three adorable pups.
Key Takeaways:
Be Yourself
- You don’t have to follow what everyone else is doing, you can do it your own way
- You don’t have to throw away who you are to be successful
Genuine Relationships Are Powerful
- Genuine relationships are so important for networking
- Genuine friends will promote you better than any trained salesperson could
Meet The Client Where They’re At
- Level with the client, meet them where they’re at. Don’t use words that they don’t know just so you sound smart. Meeting them where they’re at helps build those genuine relationships
Look Into Why A Client Didn’t Work Out
- When a client doesn’t work out, like if they’re not a good fit it’s good to examine why you thought they would be a good fit and why it didn’t work out. Then that information can help you build an SOP for your sales process and hopefully avoid clients like that in the future
- Have someone else hold you accountable or do your best to hold yourself accountable when it comes to ignoring client red flags
Don’t Try To Appeal To Everyone
- It can be ok to be polarizing in some ways. In Sarah’s case, she noticed that her social media presence is acting as a filter for her potential clients. Some people hate the idea of a lawyer being on social media, so they stay away from her which is good because they wouldn’t be a good fit together anyways.
